[Music] having ways to clearly communicate with our students can be one of our most important and effective tools in our online courses Carmen canvas has two great tools for communicating with students announcements and the conversations inbox announcements are a great way to leave a message for the entire class or to celebrate successes and other achievements in the course further using announcements for course reminders can help keep everyone informed and on track when logging into your course students will be greeted on the course homepage with any new announcements that you have sent to set up new announcements navigate to the announcements section within your course and select the add announcement button similarly to an e-mail announcements will have a subject line and a body of text which can include links to resources when setting up your announcement you can select the course sections to post to you can also determine if you would like to delay the delivery of the announcement for later date just select the date and time and hit done you can also enable commenting and liking on announcements the Carmen conversations inbox is another great messaging tool in the closest equivalent to email within Carmen different from announcements students have an inbox within Carmen which holds all of their messages sent through the conversations inbox thus conversations from all of their courses will be located here within the inbox select the pencil icon to create a new message select which course you’re emailing from and who you are emailing to within that course this option allows you to email individual students directly as well selecting the send individual messages box will essentially create a BCC email where students will not see another person’s contact information your message can include attachments and even voice or other media files [Music]
