[upbeat background music] >>Narrator: In an in-person course students can easily communicate and connect with you so you might be thinking how do I create that same presence in my new online classroom A great tool for creating online presence is through video and this doesn’t mean it has to be high production value these videos can be shot at your desk or even on your iPhone or iPad. A few ways that you might use videos in your course may be to introduce a new topic or concept, introducing an activity, responding to a class discussion, or even providing a summary of a topic concept or the module. Let’s check out a few of these video examples in action >>Dr. Konrad: That means recognizing that every family has strengths or what we referred to in the chapter as funds of knowledge figure out what those are what special talents and skills and knowledge and background and information do parents have… >>Naima Khandaker: One thing that you may have noticed in this module on behaviorism is that we’re now dealing with a completely different set of assumptions that we were dealing with before with cognitive psychology… >>Dr. Billman: My question to you now is where does special education go from here are we as special education teachers, intervention specialists can we provide the best free appropriate public education to each individual child? What are your thoughts go ahead and record a couple sentences… >>Narrator: Here are a few quick tips for making successful videos, Find a fairly quiet space with good lighting and keep in mind that it will look more natural to sit at your desk in your office than at a podium. Make a few quick notes about what you’d like to say in advance but you don’t necessarily have to script out these videos. Don’t worry too much about being perfect, it’s okay if a few “ohms” and “and’s” slip in keep in mind that you don’t edit your speech for your in-person class so not being overly perfect in your speech will come off as very natural to the audience. These videos should be pretty succinct remember the audience attention starts dropping off around 5 minutes. Try to not reference specific dates or times of the year this will allow you the option to reuse these videos when you offer the course in the future. and lastly, be consistent having videos throughout the course will not only develop but also maintain your instructor presence Thanks for watching this video and, happy filming!
